First Reds 9 Ship of 2018

At 1359z on Thursday 8th March 2018 9 Red Hawks of the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team “The Red Arrows” were cleared for takeoff on Runway 22 at RAF Scampton for the first time ahead of the 2018 Display Season.

This was the first time all 9 Aircraft have flown together during 2018 winter training and is a major landmark ahead of their Public Display Authority going into the 2018 Display Season. The 2018 team compromises of:

Red 1: Team Leader Squadron Leader Martin Pert

Red 2: Flight Lieutenant Jon Bond

Red 3: Flight Lieutenant David Stark

Red 4: Flight Lieutenant Chris Lyndon-Smith

Red 5: Flight Lieutenant Dan Lowes

Red 6: – Synchro Leader Flight Lieutenant Si Taylor

Red 7: – Synchro Two Flight Lieutenant Toby Keeley

Red 8: Flight Lieutenant Matt Masters

Red 9: Flight Lieutenant Mike Bowden

Red 10 – Supervisor Squadron Leader Adam Collins

Officer Commanding & Red 11:  Wing Commander Andrew Keith RAF

The team will continue to practice at RAF Scampton until the depart to Greece on Exercise Springhawk in order to take advantage of the more stable weather in preparation for their Public Display Authority and their return to the UK to embark on the 2018 Display Season. They are rumoured to be departing Scampton for Springhawk around the 15th April however that is yet to be confirmed.

Other than PDA the first 9 Ship is arguably the most anticipated moment in Winter Training by team and fans alike and was reflected in this tweet by Red 1:

We will continue to do our best to bring you as much flying info about the Red Arrows so keep an eye on our Diary and Twitter Account for Scampton @EGXPinfo
