F-22 Raptors fly by Coningsby

Yesterday (Monday 11th April, 10 days after April Fools) saw at least 2 F-22 Raptors fly close by to RAF Coningsby & RAF Marham en route to RAF Lakenheath. They seemed to be flying with “Panther” callsigned F15’s which probably helped them stay a little quiet in the spotting community and subsequently we only heard about them moments after their flight passed RAF Coningsby. It is a little unclear if all four of the aircraft were visual from Coningsby or if two were visible with F15’s at Coningsby and another two with F15’s at Marham however the four serials are believed to be:

05-4106 {TY} of TABOR41(flt) [F-22A “Raptor”] (Based at: Tydnall AFB, Florida, USA – 325FW | 95FS | ACC | USAF)

04-4081 {TY} of TABOR41(flt) [F-22A “Raptor”] (Based at: Tydnall AFB, Florida, USA – 325FW | 95FS | ACC | USAF)

05-4101 {TY} of TABOR41(flt) [F-22A “Raptor”] (Based at: Tydnall AFB, Florida, USA – 325FW | 95FS | ACC | USAF)

05-4095 {TY} of TABOR41(flt) [F-22A “Raptor”] (Based at: Tydnall AFB, Florida, USA – 325FW | 95FS | ACC | USAF)

They are over from the US for the centennial service of Hunting 2/4 Squadron “Lafayette” Lafayette Escadrille in France. Some of the documents I have read are in French and I lose some of it in translation but the service in commemoration of American Airmen is going to take place at Marne-La-Coquette, in Île-de-France, where there is a war memorial located in Villeneuve-le Pond park. The flypast will be held around 1300 (Site Local) on Wednesday 20th April and the Four F22 Raptors will be joined by three French Mirage 2000N, then an hour later two B-52 Stratofortress will conduct a further flypast.

There are rehearsals due on Thursday 14th April between 1030-1130 (Site Local) then reserve slots on Friday 15th, Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th with the same hours should the practice be postponed. It is unclear if the USAF aircraft will take place in the practice sorties.

The information we got about the reason for the F-22’s coming over was from this website. (in French)

There is also a short post from the USAF about the deployment in general here.

Thanks to Michelle Middleton (@Michell52526512 on Twitter) for the kind permission to use her photos in this article. We are looking for a close up of one of the Raptors to suit our design layout so please send in your pictures.
